My Redang Escape: Four Days That Went By Far Too Fast

Sometimes You Just Need to Get Away

There are holidays you enjoy, and then there are holidays that stay in your memory long after you've returned home.

For me, Redang was definitely the second type.

Like many people, I had seen countless photos of Pulau Redang online. Stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, colourful coral reefs, and sea turtles swimming gracefully through the ocean. To be honest, I thought social media was exaggerating.

I was wrong.

The real Redang was even more beautiful than the photos.

This is the story of my four-day escape to one of Malaysia's most beautiful islands.

Day 1: Leaving the City Behind

The Journey to Paradise

The adventure started before sunrise.

After a long drive to Terengganu, I finally arrived at Merang Jetty, the starting point for most visitors heading to Redang.

The atmosphere at the jetty was full of excitement.

Families were unloading bags, groups of friends were taking photos, and divers were carrying equipment almost bigger than themselves.

Everyone was heading to the same destination.

Redang.

As soon as the ferry left the jetty, I walked outside to enjoy the sea breeze. Slowly, the colour of the water changed from green to turquoise, then to a deep, vibrant blue.

About 45 minutes later, the island finally appeared on the horizon.

A lush green paradise surrounded by crystal-clear water.

At that moment, I knew this trip was going to be special.

First Stop: Long Beach (Pasir Panjang)

Once I checked into the resort, there was only one place I wanted to see.

Pasir Panjang, better known as Long Beach.

My first walk along Long Beach. Soft white sand, clear water, and absolutely no reason to check emails.

The beach looked exactly like those postcards you see in travel magazines.

The sand felt unbelievably soft beneath my feet.

The water was so clear that I could see tiny fish swimming close to the shore.

Instead of rushing around taking photos, I spent almost an hour simply walking along the beach.

No destination.

No schedule.

Just enjoying the moment.

Something about being surrounded by nature made all the stress from work disappear.

For the first time in a long while, I felt completely relaxed.

Chasing the Sunset

That evening, I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen.

The sky transformed from gold to orange, then pink and purple.

Everything slowed down.

Nobody seemed to be in a hurry.

People simply sat on the beach and enjoyed the view.

As night fell, I enjoyed a seafood dinner by the beach.

Fresh fish.

Grilled squid.

Prawns.

And the sound of waves in the background.

Honestly, five-star restaurants don't always provide experiences like that.

Day 2: Discovering the Underwater World

I woke up early the next morning, excited for what most people come to Redang for.

Snorkeling.

After breakfast, our boat headed toward the famous Marine Park area.

The water was so clear that it felt like floating above a giant aquarium.

The moment I put my face into the water, I was blown away.

Below me was an entirely different world.

Colourful coral gardens stretched across the seabed.

Fish of every colour imaginable swam around us.

Some moved in huge schools, creating beautiful patterns beneath the surface.

I found myself floating quietly, completely absorbed by the beauty below.

Swimming with a Sea Turtle

Then came the highlight of the entire trip.

One of the guides shouted:

"Sea turtle!"

Everyone quickly looked down.

There it was.

A large sea turtle gliding effortlessly through the water.

It moved so gracefully that it looked almost unreal.

For several minutes, I watched it swim among the coral reefs.

No rush.

No fear.

Just peacefully moving through its natural home.

It's difficult to describe the feeling.

Some experiences simply can't be captured by photos.

This was one of them.

Pulau Ekor Tebu

Our next snorkeling stop was Pulau Ekor Tebu.

The water here was even clearer than before.

As sunlight passed through the surface, it illuminated the coral reefs below.

I spent nearly an hour simply floating and observing marine life.

Time seemed to disappear.

Day 3: Exploring Beyond the Tourist Spots

By the third day, I wanted to see a different side of Redang.

The quieter side.

The less crowded side.

So I joined a small boat trip around several hidden locations.

Chagar Hutang

📍 Location:
https://maps.google.com/?q=Chagar+Hutang+Redang

This place felt completely different from Long Beach.

There were no crowds.

No loud music.

No beach activities.

Just nature.

Dense rainforest stretched all the way to the shoreline.

The beach felt untouched.

The peaceful atmosphere was something I hadn't experienced in a very long time.

I found a piece of driftwood and sat there listening to the sound of the waves.

No phone.

No notifications.

No distractions.

Just silence.

And honestly, it was perfect.

Tanjung Tengah

From there, we continued to Tanjung Tengah.

📍 Location:
https://maps.google.com/?q=Tanjung+Tengah+Redang

The scenery here was incredible.

Rocky cliffs met crystal-clear water while waves rolled gently against the shoreline.

It was easily one of the most photogenic spots I visited during the trip.

A Rainstorm I'll Never Forget

Late in the afternoon, dark clouds began gathering.

Within minutes, heavy tropical rain started pouring down.

Most people rushed indoors.

I stayed under a sheltered area beside the beach.

Strangely, the rain made everything even more beautiful.

The ocean turned darker.

The surrounding hills disappeared behind mist.

The sound of rain mixed with crashing waves.

It felt peaceful.

Almost therapeutic.

Looking back, that unexpected rainstorm became one of my favourite memories from the trip.

Day 4: The Hardest Part

Leaving.

I woke up before sunrise on my final morning.

The beach was empty.

The sea was calm.

The island felt as though it belonged only to me.

I took one final walk along Long Beach.

No phone.

No headphones.

Just me and the sound of the ocean.

As the sun slowly rose, golden reflections danced across the water.

It was one of those moments that makes you stop and appreciate where you are.

A few hours later, I boarded the ferry back to the mainland.

As Redang gradually disappeared from view, I felt a strange mix of happiness and sadness.

Happy because of the memories.

Sad because it was over.

Final Thoughts

Redang is more than just beautiful beaches and clear water.

It's a place that reminds you to slow down.

A place where the days feel longer, the air feels fresher, and life somehow becomes simpler.

For four days, I forgot about work, deadlines, and daily routines.

Instead, I spent my time watching sunsets, swimming with turtles, exploring hidden beaches, and enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery Malaysia has to offer.

And if there's one thing I learned from this trip, it's this:

Sometimes the best thing you can do is put your phone away, take a deep breath, and allow yourself to enjoy the moment.

Pulau Redang gave me exactly that.

And I can't wait to go back. 🌴🌊☀️
